My 2 year old daughter gets very excited when doing a jigsaw! Today after every piece she put in she asked for a high five which was adorable.  It got me thinking about how we treat ourselves and whether we take a moment to reflect on the things we achieve. How many of us take time to celebrate  or are we too busy moving onto the next thing or worrying about failings?

I am a firm believer that the right attitude is half the battle in getting things done – the other half is the implementation!  So when you start focusing on what you have achieved rather than what you still have to do you will feel better, have more energy and do more. This can also impact those around you and when we have a positive influence on others it bounces back to us too.

Lets get practical….

How can you feel good about what you do? Instead of keeping everything in your head, start by writing a list of things you want to do for your marketing (or indeed your business or life in general).  A physical representation of what you achieve is good so keep the list to hand in a small notebook (my good friend got me some great Cath Kidston ones I keep in my handbag) or on your phone (Google Tasks or Microsoft OneNote are great tools).

When you have a spare 10 minutes, look at the list and do something. It helps to break bigger things into smaller tasks as well to make them easier to do.  Then cross it off the list! Why? Because this physical representation of finishing something gives a sense of satisfaction and makes us feel good, this is our high five to ourselves. You can always go one step further with a reward for every 5 tasks (nice choccy anyone?)

Another tip I have found is that when it comes to making calls, I always remember the call at the wrong time, but now I write the number next to the task when I remember it.  It means that instead of having to look up the number and make the call which takes extra time, I just make the call – a small change but it seems to work for me.

As Sir Richard Branson once said “In business as in life, all that matters is that you do something positive”

The reality is that a positive attitude usually reaps positive results.   If you start celebrating and appreciating small things you do you will feel better about yourself and no doubt achieve more.

Give me a high five for finishing my post!
